Anthropic AI copyright lawsuit: Update as judge approves massive settlement and payout for authors

US District Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín approved a $1.5 billion settlement in a copyright lawsuit against Anthropic, led by authors Andrea Bartz, Charles Graeber, and Kirk Wallace Johnson. Each member of the class action lawsuit could receive between $200 and $150,000 per work. The payout stems from Anthropic's alleged use of pirated books to train its chatbot, Claude.
