Texas man charged in fatal Tesla crash where he blamed Autopilot

Michael Butler, 39, of Texas, was charged with manslaughter after his Tesla, in Full Self-Driving mode, crashed into a home on June 11, killing 66-year-old Maria Avila. Prosecutors allege Butler overrode the system’s speed control, accelerating to 100% without braking, and data showed he had previously complained FSD was “not aggressive enough.” Tesla reported Q2 2026 deliveries of 480,126 vehicles, a 25% year-over-year increase.
