Terrorist groups are using every major AI chatbot for attack planning and weapons development

Terrorist groups including ISIS and Boko Haram are reportedly using major AI chatbots like ChatGPT and DeepSeek for attack planning, weapons development and operational training, according to a study by Antonia Jülich of Cambridge’s AI Science & Policy program. The research, based on 57 interviews, found both Boko Haram factions have set up dedicated AI units and used AI to replicate dangerous tactics, such as motorcycle jumps that killed 18 fighters. Experts warn that while current misuse remains conventional, specialized AI systems in life sciences pose a greater future risk.
