BritCard Is Dead: Burnham Kills Starmer's £1.8 Billion Digital ID To Pay For An Energy Tax Cut

Andy Burnham has cancelled the £1.8 billion BritCard digital ID scheme to fund a VAT cut on electricity bills. The move will scrap VAT on domestic electricity bills from October 1, benefiting households and some small businesses. The decision was announced by new Chancellor John Healey as part of Burnham's first major act as Prime Minister.
