Hermes agent maker Nous Research in talks for new funding at $1.5B valuation
Nous Research, creator of the open-source Hermes AI agent, is in final talks for a $75 million funding round led by Robot Ventures at a $1.5 billion valuation, following its $50 million Series A in April. The company, founded in 2023 by Jeffrey Quesnelle and others, offers both self-hosted and cloud-based versions of Hermes, which has 214,000 GitHub stars. Nous Research’s $75M raise at a $1.5B valuation hinges on Hermes’ open-source moat—214k GitHub stars signal traction, but self-hosting adoption and cloud monetization remain unproven at scale. The cap table’s VC-led round suggests strategic push into enterprise AI, yet margins on open models often erode quickly if support costs outpace adoption.
